Colombia’s Total Deal Value Reduced by Almost Half in 2015

Though the total number of deals in Colombia went up from 2014 to 2015, total deal value dropped to US$7.53 billion in 2015 from US$14.4 billion in the year prior, according to Transactional Track Record’s Colombia Half-Year Report 2H 2015.

In 2015, Colombia recorded 181 deals—up from 168 in 2014—and an aggregate value of approximately US$7.53 billion, making it the fourth-most active country in Latin America. The majority of deals were either less than US$100 million each or of a non-disclosed value with the financial and insurance sector continuing to experience the most M&A and private equity activity, according to TTR’s Colombia Half-Year Report 2H 2015. That said, big ticket deals—those over US$500 million—amounted to US$3.95 billion, making up more than half of total deal value in 2015. Meanwhile, top deals crossed multiple sectors, including water and sanitation, distribution and retail and electric energy.
