China invests in Finland based video games developer

Merrill Corporation has partnered with Thomson Reuters to produce a monthly league table, which ranks the top M&A advisors in APAC, including Japan. This summary also provides insight into the biggest deals in the region for the month of June.

June saw Goldman Sachs retain its position as the top advisor, while M&A activity across the region reached US$97.5 billion. China’s Tencent Holdings Ltd acquired an 84.3% interest in Finland-based video games developer Supercell Oy, making it June’s top deal with an estimated value of US$8.6 billion.

This brings overall M&A activity for 2016 year-to-date to US$634.8 billion, a 13% decline in deal value coming from last year’s year-to-date record volume (US$729.9 billion), despite a 3.5% increase in number of announced deals.
