On Saturday 10th June, for the 7th year running, Merrill hosted several clients at the world-famous European calendar fixture, Polo in the Park, held at West London’s historic Hurlingham Park. This year’s event witnessed brilliant sunshine, offering the perfect setting for a day of gripping competition.
Clients could enjoy the day in Merrill’s exclusive enclosure and feast on an abundance of gourmet food and free-flowing beverages. This high-profile event attracts a spectrum of influential leaders and opinion-formers, presenting Merrill and its clients the opportunity to expand their network and build valuable relationships in a relaxed and exclusive setting.
Highlights from the day
Whitley Neill Team, Cape Town and Air Europa Team, Buenos Aires took on the first game of the day. After a cautious start, Whitely Neill took an extraordinary lead with 4 goals by Joaquin Pittaluga. Argentine Paco O’Dwyer of Air Europa managed to claw back a goal but this was quickly outshone by Jamie Morrison who scored Whitely Neill’sfifth goal ending the first half at 5-1 to Whitely Neill.
Both teams scored a flurry of goals in the second half but Whitely Neill left victorious with an imposing 10-5 win.
The second game of the day was played by rivals Hometown MINT Team London played and EFG Team Zurich, both teams scored two early goals. A mistake by EFG Team Zurich player Max Charlton gifted the opposition a penalty within the first 10 seconds, resulting in a score by MINT Team London player George Meyrick. But EFG Team Zurich’s Chris Hyde quickly equalised to leave even the scores at 2-2.
Hyde went on to score a further four goals by the end of the second chukka with Meyrick scoring an additional goal to kept MINT Team London in the game, however the game ended 13-9 to EFG Team Zurich.
For the final game of the day Mauritius Team Port Louis and Argentex Team Dubai went head-to-head. Juan Cruz Merlos of Argentex Team Dubai scored the first goal of the game and the end of the first chukka. Both teams showcase their excellent defence and scores remain 1-0 to Argentex Team Dubai at half time.
Argentex Team Dubai players, George Spencer-Churchill and Hissam Ali Hyder both scored a goal in the second half followed by a goal from Mauritius Team Port Louis’s Miguel Ayala. The game ended 6-1 to Argentex Team Dubai who went onto play EFG Team Zurich on Sunday.
